Empowering Batwa Girls: Patience’s Journey to Success

Empowering women such as Patience through educational opportunity in places like Uganda makes a real-world impact on their lives. The Batwa Development Program  (BDP) partners with the Kellermann Foundation to prioritize provide an education to  Batwa children at least through primary levels if not further.

We have seen first-hand how much educational opportunities become a life changing for young women like Patience, and we continue to invest in resources directed  towards their transformation to a more sustainable and successful life.

Patience is a great example. She’s a Mutwa girl from a small rural settlement called Bikuuto. A short conversation with her reveals just how much she can’t believe that education has opened doors for her into the different opportunities she has had over time from attaining her Diploma in Business Administration from African College of commerce and Technology (ACCT) in Kabale that enabled her attain her position with  Bwindi Community Hospital working as a data Clerk in the eQuality Insurance  department to her present role  as a social worker at the BDP, based in one of the nearby Batwa settlements. Even in her present position, Patience is working to  attain her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara.

Patience says, “I have become a better person and more stable in life. Becoming a person who people can rely on, especially my family, has been the most rewarding, and it has boosted my self-confidence and credibility as an individual.

I am so thankful to our donors who through The Kellermann Foundation and the BDP who have made my dream possible.  Also these opportunities serve as a call upon my fellow Batwa to indulge in education and not be defined by society. Let’s push beyond our circles and make our dreams valid as well. I call upon well-wishers and donors for more support to the Batwa so that they too can  gain an insightful future in the same way that  I have seen mine coming along.”
